Great points about the use of technology and authenticity! It's also important to state that the students are actively involved in the learning process rather than just being "passive learners." I also agree that PBL has students use their new knowledge and benefit much more from it compared to reading text books or listening to lectures.

Hi Rod,

Congratulations on starting your new position! (For some reason, I thought you were starting after the holidays.) I know from your discussion posts and your blog that you are going to be an invaluable resource to your district as you pursue the technology upgrades (both to equipment and teacher skill levels)! Working with teachers can be a challenge, but you have the soft skills as well as the tech skills to do well!

The resource you shared is wonderful and I'm glad you have done so. Every teacher should have a subscription! :)

You have brought great insight to our discussions and I thank you for taking the time and effort to do so! I look forward to crossing paths with you again in the future in this program. I hope you will drop me an email from time to time to let me know how things are going.

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas,
Dr. L :-)

Hi Rod,

What a marvelous opportunity you have to teach in such a school! And what a wonderful atmosphere for the students to be learning and connecting and then working together to influence THEIR world! THIS is a model of what our world should be, EH?! :)

Please share this on our discussion board if you have not yet (I am not fully up to date in reading the posts at the moment). It is a heart-warming example to share!

Hi Rod,

Kudos on both the regular use of tools like ePals and the spotlight you have received for same! Your students have had an enriched experience in your classroom that cannot be matched!

Please share the Prime Minister visit with our class - find a way to fit it into one of your discussion posts before the end of the course! ;-)

I cannot fathom teachers who resist use of technology, when it opens up the whole world to their students!

Thank you for sharing! WOW!

Hi Rod,

This sounds like a fabulous resource with endless possibilities for creative student projects!

On a related note, I saw a piece on the news (last night or the night before - it's been a blur this week!) which told about scientists in CA who are developing methods to predict earthquakes. They are sending instruments that detect the slightest motion down deep in the earth (in well-type shafts) and from these, they think they will be able to provide warnings ... This would have such potential to save lives!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts again this week! You come up with some really interesting ideas and resources!

This is a very good example of synthesis. I have seen this project done, but the task of students keeping track of the building supplies is a wonderful added element!
